Understanding the fragile balance between human occupation and the natural world makes the guarantee of a harmonic coexistence pivotal to the development of any Be Hotels Group project. Each site, nature and urban, has specific demands to address, whether it is wildlife, local waters, or endangered forests. Regeneration, Conservation and Sustainability of flora, fauna, and communities in each one of our locations will always be the seminal aspect of any endeavour, so people and the environment can live in peace again.

Nature is sovereign and the only possible progress is a collective one, embracing all sentient beings.

Be Hotels sustainability program
is rooted in four basic principles:

1

Care of the land

2

Care of the People

3

Preserving Biodiversity

4

Fair Distribution

To develop a solid sustainability program, each one is designed through the following building blocks:

Community Partnerships

Each of Be Hotels Group properties exist in a place with an established community, with its heritage, culture and talents. The first step will always be to partner with the locals. Local communities are the heart of the solution to human wildlife conflict and the erosion of sustainable ecology.

Science & Research

Scientific and research activities carried out on the sustainability projects serve several purposes. They form the basis for decision making processes, as well as for engaging local and international communities, and government and private sector actors.

Business Leadership

The creation of a mutually beneficial partnership between the company and the community will be developed with integrity, high ethical standards, longterm thinking, flexibility, and humility to engage honestly and create long-term profitability as well as a sus-tainable relationship.

Stakeholder Collaboration

The most important elements are all sectors of the local community, who must be involved in and receive the benefit of the projects, to ensure the sustainability of the initiative.

Waste Management

On our way to a zero-waste
operations strategy!

We have intentionally sought and formed partnerships with suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability. These companies monitor the life cycle of the product, reusing materials, and taking responsibility for waste disposal and recycling.

Use of corn starch bags.

Safe disposal of
Hazardous waste.

Participation in waste
separation program.

The use of PET plastic
was reduced drastically.

Create compost with the
organic waste generated
by Be Hotels.

We recycle over 14
types of materials.

Use of biodegradable
Containers.

Becoming carbon positive!

In 2020 we began to neutralize our emissions by buying carbon credits from the AMBIO Cooperative. Bonds equivalent to 1861 tons of co2 were acquired, which were invested in the Scolelté reforestation project in the state of Chiapas, where 90 peasants and indigenous communities work. The carbon foot-print was calculated based on our consumption of energy, fuels, transportation of people and supplies, generation of waste and the number of guests who visited us last year.

Beach Cleanups

In Tulum, the lack of a comprehensive waste treatment system, public garbage dumps, or people in charge of cleaning the streets, seriously affects the terrestrial and marine ecosystems, the aquifers, and the general population.

At Be Hotels, we created the ‘Cleanup squad’ called “We can BE the change” as a program that organizes beach cleanings with a team of permanent collaborators and the help of volunteers. Our hired cleaning team removes over 10 Tons of garbage per month.

Turtle protection with
Flora y Fauna de Mexico Foundation

The beaches of Be Hotels Group in the Mayan Riviera are home to nests of Caribbean Sea turtles. During 2019 we protected more than 42 nests in our beaches, and along with our partner Flora y Fauna de México, ensured the return of 1760 hatchlings to the sea.

100% Mexican
Supply Chain

We seek to benefit mainly small and medium entrepreneurs in the Yucatan Peninsula for a better distribution of wealth in the region and to reduce the impact of emissions generated by logistics.

Quality of life in the company.

The Human Development and Corporate Social Responsibility department provides programs and training that bring. In 2020 our wellness cor-porate program "Open-Minded", deepened into providing our collaborators with tools so that they have a correct balance in their physical, emotion-al, spiritual, and social relation with the community, for which we had the external support of our wellness coaches.

With this program, not only did the quality of life of 520 direct collaborators improve, but their families and community as well.

Capacity-building for all collaborators.

With a department dedicated to strengthening the capacities of our collaborators, we have carried out 14,435 hours of training through programs designed on the potential of human development, within the company and in the tourism industry.

WAdditionally, we offer a language program for employees to learn and / or perfect foreign languages (English and French), from which 208 people (40%) have benefited.

Community-based
projects

Be Hotels Group goal is to provide resources for the regeneration, preservation, and inclusion of local communities in the regions where we are present. We work with professionals and strategic allies to design and develop possible solutions to the basic needs of life, to preserve natural and cultural ecosystems, and to co-create with local communities’ innovative projects that promote their sustainable development.

Regenerative Agriculture and Permaculture:
Be Hotels Group has partnered with Mestiza de Indias.

Nômade
Symbiosis

Nômade Symbiosis is a project designed to create and develop musical activities and collaborations that contribute to the sustainable development of communities with a rich cultural music heritage. Its purpose is to bring together great exponents of local folklore with contemporary electronic music producers on a journey exploring ancestral sounds and unique world cultures. The process and result of each cultural symbiosis aims not only to preserve cultural heritage but promote social causes and contribute to specific needs of developing regions.

UN Sustainable Development
Goals and UN Global Compact

Thanks to the efforts of more than 600 collaborators in 4 business units in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, we are consolidating the foundation of our goals for sustainable impact on the people, planet, culture and local economy of the places where we operate.

In 2020, Be Hotels Group became part of the UN Global Compact, created for companies to incorporate universal principles related to human rights, labor, the environment and the fight against corruption in our strategies and operations, as well as for us to act so that the social objectives and the implementation of the SDG Sustainable Development Goals advance

In our strategic plan for Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility 2020-2030, we have emphasized the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals. As presented in the 2020 report, we emphasize the SDGs that are addressed by each initiative:

SDG 4 "Quality Education"
SDG 5 “Gender equality”
SDG 8 "Decent Work and Economic Growth"
SDG 13 “Climate action”
SDG 14 “Life Below Water”
SDG 15 “Life on Land”

For two years in a row we have consolidated Sustainability Reports, outlining the achievements accomplished up to 2020 and the proposed objectives with growth indicators. We aligned to GRI International Standards in the presentation of these reports and implemented frameworks and methodologies to manage and track our contributions for the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals. We are proud of what we have achieved and hope for a prosper-ous future for all.

We have ambitious aspirations for the coming years, which is why we are implementing the principles of sustainability in our global expansion plan, integrating them into the design and development processes of all our internal and external projects.
